Ambedkar Jayanti celebrated in Namchi

NAMCHI: The 120th birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar was observed here at the District Administrative Center conference hall with a special function organized by the Anusuchit Jati Kalyan Sangh, Namchi.
Namchi-Singithang MLA, Binod Rai, was present as the chief guest accompanied by Namchi Municipal Council vice-chairman, NH Aasari, social worker TM Bardewa, AJKS chairman Dushant Pariyar and officers from the various departments.
Social worker TM Bardewa, who has recently been conferred with a national award, was felicitated by the AJKS for her selfless work towards the society today.

The AJKS chairman, Mr. Pariyar, while welcoming the guests to the function, pointed out that this was the first time that Ambedkar Jayanti was being celebrated in Namchi and rued that it was unfortunate that such a big celebration has to be organized by the Anusuchit Jati Kalayan Sangh alone in Sikkim. He highlighted that Dr. Ambedkar had worked for every individual of this country and the celebration of his birth anniversary should be a more collaborative effort.
He also presented a demand for the installation of an Ambedkar Statue in Namchi.
Addressing the occasion, the area MLA recalled Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions to the country and also shared that the SDF government in Sikkim had worked consciously on the principles established by Dr. Ambedkar and secured social justice and liberty for every individual in the State.
“Under the leadership of Dr. Pawan Chamling many social reforms have come about in Sikkim and every caste, religion and community enjoys peace and security. The people should cooperate with the government to maintain this peace and achieve full development,” he said.
The MLA also expressed displeasure over the fact that not all government schemes and benefits reached the target beneficiaries and stressed that the people should keep watch against such denials and oversights.
