MANGAN, 17 Feb: A meeting was called at the Lachung Dzumsa yesterday by the Dzumsa committee and also attended by the DM (North), TN Kazi, Sr. SP BK Tamang, SDM and SDPO [Chungthang], Gumpa Omzey, Pipons and public of Lachung. This followed from issues discussed by a delegation from Lachung with the DM a few days back. [click here for details]
At the meeting, the Lachung Hydel Project related matters were raised again and the DM clarified afresh that no hydel project would come to the area unless the Dzumsa and the public endorse it. He stressed that as things stand, there was no need to raise the issue again because the views of the people have already been conveyed to the State Government.
Also yesterday, the people changed the Pipon-I, CT Lachungpa, who was nominated only recently in December 2010. Following a lottery draw [the traditional way of selecting the Pipon], Chewang Namgyal Lachungpa of Khedum was nominated the new Pipon-I to replace the incumbent.
A section of the Lachungpas, it may be recalled, had called on the DC recently and protested against the hydel project and the Pipon-I.
