Health Minister interacts with department officials

GANGTOK, 09 June [IPR]: An introductory interaction of Minister for Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare Department, Arjun Kumar Ghatani with departmental officials was held at Chintan Bhawan today.
While addressing the officials, Mr Ghatani appealed to them to take collective responsibility to achieve the goal to make Sikkim the healthiest state in India providing the best health services to the people of the state.
At the outset, he thanked the Chief Minister of Sikkim for giving him an opportunity to serve the Health Department and assured full support on his part.
He thanked health officials for providing selfless service and further encouraged them to provide quality service.
Speaking on the emergency service being provided in STNM hospital, he said that the Department can extend emergency services from a rented building till the completion of the 575 bedded Multi Specialty Hospital at Sichey. In this connection, he also asked for suggestions from the officials.
He further instructed Section in-charge and Scheme head to prepare a list of requirements and works to be done to overcome the existing constraints.
Expressing concern on the suicide rate of Sikkim he suggested that a research team be formed to find solutions. Extensive awareness drive is to be done, we want Sikkim to be a suicide free state, he added.
Director General-cum-Secretary, Dr. K Bhandari presented a detailed overview of activities of the department. Secretary Bhandari briefed on various components of the health system, protocol hierarchy, their duties and responsibilities and achievements of the department.
He also informed that all four district hospitals will have digital X-Ray machines within seven months while the construction of 150-200 bedded District Hospital at Singtam is also expected, he added. Two 30-bedded Community Health Centres are to be completed within one year, he informed.
He also thanked health officials for the decrease in Infant Mortality Rate, Maternal Mortality Rate, and for promoting institutional delivery.
