SHSC builds support with membership drive

GANGTOK, 03 Feb: Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club [SHSC] is currently busy with a membership drive to draw support from the people for young talented footballers of the club. The club launched its membership drive on 25 December last year and in the period of around one month the club has registered 100 new members.
SHSC executive members held a meeting with its members today at the club’s office here at Tathangchen. In the meeting, SHSC president, Tenzing Lamtha gave the financial and other reports of the club to the members.
He stated that the membership drive was mainly to draw support from the people of Sikkim for the young talented footballers to provide them the best coaching and facilities. The club has succeeded in getting 100 members so far and now aims to work more aggressively to draw more members, he mentioned. He shared that the club also has plans to set up a hostel for footballers and provide coaching in other disciplines in the near future if it gets support from the people. 
Mr Lamtha mentioned that as a goodwill gesture, the club will be using 20% of the membership fee to give prizes to members through a lucky draw every month. The club will also be placing the financial and other report to its members every month, he added.
The meeting was also addressed by the SHSC publicity secretary, Zigmi Y Lepcha.
The lucky draw winners of the first month are Phurba Lakey Sherpa of Arithang who won the first prize, while Tashi Pintso Bhutia of Tathangchen and Sunita Subba of Lower Tathangchen won the second and third prizes respectively.  
Around two years old, SHSC has been providing football coaching to 90 boys and girls. The club has engaged coaches Pranay Subba and Devendra Gurung for boys and Anuradha Chettri for girls.

The club also recently appointed former national-level footballer, Karma Thinley as its Technical Director.
