Karatekas bag two bronze medals at Senior Nationals

GANGTOK, 02 Feb: Two Sikkimese karatekas have won bronze medals at the KAI Senior National Karate Championship held at Talkotara Indoor Stadium, New Delhi from 23-26 January. The championship was hosted by Delhi Karate Association under the banner of Karate Association of India [KAI].
A press release informs that Mandira Karki and Hem Kumari Rai won a bronze medal each in the under 45 kgs [Fight] and 68 kgs plus [Fight] categories respectively. 29 teams including Indian Army, Paramilitary forces and State Police participated in the championship.
Three female karatekas of the state team have also qualified for the forthcoming 35th National Games to be held in Kerala this year, the release informs. The team was accompanied by coach, Bhim Bahadur Subba.
Also, nine members of Sikkim State Karate-do Association [SSKA] attended a Referee Seminar-cum-Examination conducted by World Karate Federation [WKF] referee commission Chairman, Lowinger Rowland. Four members of the association, Bijoy Gurung, Dichen Lepcha, Dina Rai and Krishna Prasad Rai have qualified in the Seminar or National Judge Examination.
Sikkim was represented by SSKA general secretary cum chief technical director, Shihan Bidhan Ballav Subba.
The association has congratulated the medal winners and National Judges [NJ]. A felicitation programme was also organized by SSKA president, BB Tamang at the SSKA office at Sichey on 29 January.
