One held on charges of attempt to rape
GANGTOK, 10 Dec: In a disturbing case, a youth was taken into custody yesterday on charges of having allegedly attempted to rape his younger sister in South Sikkim.
Namchi Police arrested the youth, originally hailing from Surjali basti of Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal and currently residing in Namchi, on 09 December for trying to rape his 18-year-old younger sister who is physically challenged.
A case under section 511/376 [punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment and punishment for rape] of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against him at the Namchi Police Station. The victim was medically examined at Namchi District Hospital and the case is under investigation.

Teen commits suicide
GANGTOK, 10 Dec: A 15-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging on 09 December. The deceased was a Class X student staying with his uncle and aunt. On 09 December, when the aunt returned home from work, she discovered the suicide, it is informed. A case of Unnatural Death [UD] has been registered at the Rhenock Police Station.

Obscene SMS
GANGTOK, 10 Dec: Namchi Police on 09 December registered a case against unknown persons on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman.As per the police report, on 07 December at around 4 pm an unknown person sent an obscene SMS to one Lakpa Tshering Sherpa’s mobile number which was addressed to the sister of a person from Perbing basti. Following this, the brother reported the matter to the police. The Namchi police have sent a requisition for details of the SIM number used to send the obscene SMS. A case under section 509 [word, gesture or act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman] of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Namchi Police Station and the case is under investigation.

Trader files complaint of cheating against two
GANGTOK, 10 Dec: A case of cheating has been registered against two persons at the Singtam Police Station on 09 December on the complaint of Sandeep Agarwal of Singtam Bazaar.
According to Sandeep Agarwal [proprietor of Sikkim Auto Agency], he had supplied materials for MG-NREGA works at Khamdong BAC. However, the payment for the said works [approximately Rs. 10 lakh] has instead been fraudulently made out to another person with a similar name.
A case under section 420/403/408 [cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, dishonest misappropriation of property and criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant] of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Singtam Police Station and the case is under investigation, it is informed.
