1,294 kg sold at Rs. 1,110 per kg at 4th Large Cardamom auction

GANGTOK, 19 Dec: The 4th Auction of Large Cardamom for the year 2013-14 was conducted by the auctioneer NERAMAC Ltd on 18 December at Spices Board’s auction Centre, Singtam.
A press release informs that the total quantity put up for auction and sold was 1,294.4 kgs while the average price was Rs. 1,110.31 per kg [Rs 44,412 per mound]. The clean bold Varlangey variety of large cardamom from Lamaten, East Sikkim fetched the highest price of Rs 1,170 per kg. The minimum price of large cardamom during the auction was Rs 1,000 per kg [Rs 40,000 per mound].
M/s India Rubber Impex, a leading dealer and exporter of Spices from Agra and other leading Large Cardamom dealers from Singtam and Gangtok had participated in this auction, it is informed.
Asst. Director (Marketing), Spices Board, Singtam, CS Ghatani, in his address, urged farmers to ensure quality and maximum arrival of cardamom in the Auction Centre to attract bidders from outside the state as well as to fetch premium prices for their produce. Sr. Zonal Manager of NERAMAC Ltd., PC Roy thanked the large cardamom growers and dealers for their participation in the auction and expressed hope for a more successful auction next time, the release adds.
