GANGTOK, 12 July: The state government is looking to revive and restructure the Handloom sector in Sikkim. For this purpose, a committee under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Commerce and Industries, has been set up by the government to examine and implement the revival, reform and restructuring package, informs a press release.
Apart from monitoring the implementation of the revival package the committee will ensure timely and proper conduct of special audit in the Apex Weaver’s Co-operative Society (AWCS) and Primary Weaver’s Co-operative Society (PWCS).
There will be a common accounting system and proper management information system and the committee will also guide and monitor HRD initiatives in the AWCS and PWCS. All necessary information and feedback is to be delivered to the National Implementation Monitoring and Review Committee (NIMRC).
The field level operational problems are to be sorted out and the committee will guide and supervise the overall implementation of the revival package and look into all other related issues as well.
The release adds that this is an eight-member committee and also includes a NABARD representative, MD, SISCO and SHHDC Ltd respectively; a chartered accountant nominated by the chairperson and the Director, Directorate of Handlooms and Handicrafts as Convenor of the Committee.
