NAMCHI, 22 June: The mood at the District Office of RM&DD here is buoyant as the total number of pucca houses handed over to beneficiaries in South District crossed one hundred.
Constructed under the Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission, these houses include Model A and Model C houses in various Gram Panchayat Units in different Development Blocks now aggregating to more than one hundred in the District.
There are altogether 1095 pucca houses allotted to beneficiaries in South District as per the Baseline Survey out of which 102 houses have already been handed over to beneficiaries. Another 29 houses are complete and are ready to be handed over to the beneficiaries of different Blocks.
This milestone of 102 pucca houses by the South District will surely help propel the State towards targeted achievement of construction of 5853 pucca houses in the State by 2013 as envisioned by the Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling. The construction of pucca houses under CMRHM is hundred percent owner driven, however, it is closely monitored by Block Rural House Construction Committees headed by respective Area MLAs which has BDO as Member Secretary and Assistant Engineers of respective BACs, Assistant Engineer-Electrical, Accounts Officer, ACF, Panchayats, Zilla Members as other members.
The BRHCC is fully empowered to award the construction of pucca houses to individuals, NGOs or anyone with sound social credentials if the pucca house beneficiaries are found incapable/unwilling to volunteer for the construction of their own houses. There is further constant visits and monitoring from the District by the ADC (Development) and by the officials from head office of Rural Management and Development Department.
This multi-level monitoring coupled with the zeal of all concerned has made South District surpass the three figure mark of one hundred pucca houses as they officially handed over as many houses to the poorest families of rural Sikkim under CMRHM .The District plans to handover another 50 houses within the month of June.
