SNT adjudged Best Operating Hill Service in country

ANAND OBEROI
GANGTOK, 03 Jan: The Association of State Road Transport Undertakings under the Ministry of Road Transport, GoI, has conferred the ASRTU Productivity Award for the year 2009-10 for Best Operating Hill Services amongst all State Transport Units [STU] on the Sikkim Nationalised Transport.
The award, as per an official communiqué dispatched to the SNT General Manager, ND Rai, will be presented at the 56th Annual Conference of STUs scheduled to be held at Mantra Hall,15 Parliament Street, The Park Hotel, New Delhi on 09 January next week.

The GM explains that the SNT pursued a consistent effort to register maximum improvement in KMPL through effective engines and improved machine maintenance which resulted in high fuel efficiency of the organisation’s fleet of 97 buses. This has been highly applauded by all transporters throughout the country and earned SNT the prestigious award. The kilometers per liter [Kmpl] performance of SNT buses, he informs, has increased from 3.19 KMPL to 3.25, a significant rise of 0.06 KMPL given the terrain the buses have to negotiate.
“In order to activate the existing infrastructure, we have worked on a mission-mode to take our services to new heights. I want to add that this is not the first time that SNT is being awarded, comprehensive national excellence awards like the Best Performing Transport Service have also come our way a couple of years back, and the trophy for which was also presented to Chief Minister Pawan Chamling,” stated the GM.
The salient features of the ASRTU Productivity Awards are in the Performance category which is an achievement award and the maximum improvement in KMPL, both of which Sikkim has bagged.
“The real credit of the award goes to the drivers and the mechanics at SNT whose contributions should be appreciated and admired. Their efforts and hard work has impressed stakeholders in the last calendar year and also boosted the interest of all the stakeholders to use SNT services,” expressed the GM.
He stressed that SNT has always been motivated and energized by its service users and works hard to deliver continuous high performance, dedication, commitment and perform with a spirit of competition for the development of bus transport services on treacherous roads and inhospitable weather throughout.
Lastly, it was also mentioned that this award comes as a gift for the entire SNT family and all people who avail its services to mark the Oil & Gas Conservation Week which will be observed from 15 January.
