2-day North-East Business Summit begins Friday in New Delhi


GANGTOK, 05 Jan: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), along with the Ministry of DoNER, Government of India is organizing it’s annual flagship ‘North-East Business Summit’ in New Delhi between 06 and 07 January, 2012.

A press release informs that the two-day mega ‘7th North-East Business Summit’ will address key issues related to the overall socio-economic development of the North-East, which, despite being a region with tremendous economic potential, has not been able to grow as expected, and has literally remained untapped.
“The Indian Chamber strongly feels that policies and programmes need to be suitably monitored and  implemented for taking the region to a higher growth trajectory, in sync with the NE Vision 2020 document released by the PM, Dr. Manmohan Singh  in 2008, which recommends a structural transformation of the region in terms of development to catch up with the rest of the country with an increasing average growth rate of 12.95 Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) per annum from the present 7.5 per cent”,  the release states.
The Summit will have focused Sessions on strategic areas like: Meeting NE India’s Infrastructure Needs with Public Private Partnerships ;  Opportunities in the Tourism & Hospitality Sector ; Opportunities & Constraints of Border Trade ; Agro & Food Processing: Action Agenda ; Developing E-governance , Telecommunication, Telemedicine services in NE region ; etc, the release informs.
There will be a high-profile Industry Ministers’ Forum, which will deliberate on how the North-East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP) 2007 is benefiting the Industry in the region, and whether the Policy needs further amendments or not. The Summit will also have an Exhibition on the North-East region wherein all the States will display their indigenous products, and showcase their comparative advantages to investors.
The release further mentions that more than 1000 delegates from across the country, and also from neighbouring countries are expected to attend the 7th North-East Business Summit, which will have Union Minister of Home Affairs, P Chidambaram as the chief guest , and Union Minister, Ministry of DoNER, Paban Singh Ghatowar as the Summit Chairman.
The Summit will witness the coming together of a very large number of top Indian and international Cabinet Ministers, Chief Ministers of the North-Eastern States, Policy Makers, Govt. Representatives, Bureaucrats, Industry Captains, Economists & Analysts as Guest Speakers and Experts, the release further adds.
The Inaugural Session will also witness the giving away of the 3rd North East Excellence Awards to outstanding achievers and organizations from the region who have excelled in diverse fields.
