Criteria fixed for promotions to Sr SP rank

GANGTOK, 05 Jan: To be eligible for promotion to the post of Senior Superintendent of Police, an SP is now required to put in 6 years of continuous service as SP; for an SP to be eligible for promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police, he or she will have to put in 4 years of continuous service. This is as per the amended Sikkim State Police Service (Recruitment) Amendment Rules, 2011 which were amended recently by the Department of Personnel.

The amended rules also provide for an alternative in that an SP can be considered for promotion to the post of Sr SP if he or she has put in 14 years of continuous service in the Police Service and if there is no SP who fulfills the condition of having put in 6 years of continuous service
Besides, the candidate should have worked as SP for at least one year in substantive capacity. There is a similar alternative for SSPs for being considered for promotion to DIG where the SSP will be considered if he or she has put in 18 years of continuous service in the Police and has worked as SSP in a substantive capacity.
