Tadong pharmacy busted for peddling substances of abuse

GANGTOK, 24 Oct: The Sadar police has busted a Gangtok-based pharmacy for dealing in contraband substances [prescription drugs of abuse] which is suspected of having become a hub for consuming substances of abuse.
According to reports, the police have arrested Khagendra Darnal, 35, of Central Pendam and presently residing at Daragaon, where his pharmacy, Meghna Enterprises, is located at Convoy Ground, Tadong, Gangtok.
With information reaching the police that the pharmacy was indulging in illicit sale of contraband substances, a raid was conducted which landed the police with substances of abuse. Besides, the raid also exposed that the registers of the pharmacy were not properly maintained and up to date.
Moreover, it was reportedly unearthed that the license to run the pharmacy had expired in the year 2010. Registers seized from the pharmacy revealed to the police that they contained records of only up to 2006. There were discrepancies in maintaining the schedule ‘H’ drugs under which the seized contraband items are listed. These are to be properly maintained while the register depicted records of only 2006.
Among the items seized were 118 bottles of Neclodyl cough syrup, 16 bottles of Esky cough syrup and another 9 empty bottles.
