SLYA team tours North Sikkim, collects update and grievances


GANGTOK, 23 Oct: A team of Renjyong Mutachi Rong Ong Shejum (Sikkim Lepcha Youth Associaiton) consisting of the members from Rakdong Branch, Fumbong Lho Timpyem and Reymindu Timpyem Kyong Ong Shezum and led by its cultural secretary, Karma Tshering Lepcha toured earthquake affected parts of North Sikkim recently, a press release informs.

The team, on reaching Kyum, assisted the affected people in constructing temporary houses.
The team then started their tour from Burfok inspecting the damages and the reliefs reached. The team members covered the villages of Toong, Rong Rong, Mangzing, Bringkatam, Singchim, Sindhu, Ruvong, Kazak, Muntyang and Gyathang collecting grievances and demands of the affected people. The team noticed severe damages cause by the earthquake, informs an association press release.
During their interaction with the locals, the team learnt that the villagers were not satisfied with the received amount of relief as they considered it not at par with the gravity of damages suffered by their properties, the release informs.
However, the common demand made by all the villagers was for the restoration of the road, the release adds.
The association has requested the government officials to visit these places especially Bringkatam, Singchim, Toong Rong Rong, Mangzing, Singchim and Ruvong, and provide them with the necessary needs, the release adds.
