Namchi Volleyball Association through to finals in both Men’s and Women’s categories at Chuba


NAMCHI, 23 Oct: Marking the occasion of International Non-Violence Day 2011, United Peace Federation of Sikkim, in collaboration with International Non-Violence Committee Chuba, South Sikkim, is organising the Hills Open Men’s and Constituency Level Women’s Volleyball Tournament here at the Chuba Junior High School ground. The tournament began on 15 October.

Vice Chairman, Namchi Municipal Council, NH Ansari, was the guest of the day today accompanied by SDF’s South district vice-president GM Gurung.
Semi-final matches of the tourney were played today between Temi Tarku and Namchi Volleyball Association in the Men’s Open while in the Constituency Level Women’s Open, Sikkim Police played against Namchi Volleyball Association.
In the women’s category the Namchi girls thrashed Sikkim Police with a score of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-15 and made it to the finals against Tanzi Village.
In the Men’s category, an interesting match was played between Temi Tarku and Namchi Volleyball Association where the boys of Namchi emerged victorious with a 3 sets to one score. Namchi Volleyball Association will be playing against the winners of tomorrow’s second semi final match between Kital and Kateng in the final match of the tournament.
The winner of the Hills Open Men’s Volleyball Tournament will be awarded cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with trophy while the runners-up will be awarded Rs 35,000 along with trophy. Similarly, in the women’s category the winners will be awarded Rs 25,000 along with trophy and Rs 15,000 along with trophy to the runners-up.
On the occasion, a traditional dance competition, adjudged by Sushma Chettri, Hari Gurung and Hemant Rana, was also held. Prebeng SS stood first, while Tingley SS and Ex. Students of Chuba JHS stood second and third respectively. The cultural groups will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively on the final day of the tournament.
