GANGTOK, 03 Aug: Central Dojang [Paljor Stadium] has emerged the champion, leaving MCM Dojang [White Hall] on the second place of the 14th State Junior Taekwondo Kheorugi Championship – 2011 held today here at Paljor Stadium gymnasium hall.
Gold medalists in different weight categories have automatically earned the chance to represent Sikkim in the forthcoming Junior Nationals Taekwondo Kheorugi Championship scheduled to be held in Ranchi, Jharkhand, later this year.
A total of 50 participants in the 14 to 17 years age-group from different dojangs around the state participated in the championship organized by the Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association [SATA].
The participating dojangs were Central Dojang [Paljor Stadium], MCM Dojang [White Hall], Namchi SAI, JMK Memorial School Namchi, Namchi Central Dojang, Uttarey Dojang and Saraswati Vidya Academy, Uttarey.
Development Area Councillor, YB Thapa, who is also the president of SATA, was present as the chief guest, today and gave away the medals, trophies and certificates. He was also accompanied by SATA general secretary, Trilok Subba and other members of the SATA along with the parents of the participants among others.
The gold medalists in boy’s are: Prashant Tamang of JMK Memorial School Namchi [fin], Soulwin Rai of JMK Memorial School Namchi [fly], Robin Rai of MCM Dojang [White Hall] [Bantam], Ratan Baraily of Central Dojang [Paljor Stadium] [Feather], Amit Thapa of Namchi SAI [Light] and Subash Biswakarma of Namchi SAI [Welter].
In girls, Sumandita Tamang of Namchi Central Dojang [Fin], Bindhya Jairu of Central Dojang [Paljor Stadium] [Fly], Vidya Sunwar of Central Dojang [Paljor Stadium] [Bantam], Kunzang Palmu Bhutia of Central Dojang [Paljor Stadium] [Feather], Kunzang Ongmu Bhutia of MCM Dojang [White Hall][Welter] and Marina Rai of Namchi SAI [Heavy] won gold medals.
