GANGTOK, 06 June: A section of the Indira Byepass caved in near Manbir Colony ahead of from DC Office last night when the jhora there broke its banks due to the heavy rainfall.
Three quarters of the road was sliced away by the raging jhora at around 2:30 a.m. it is informed. As is obvious from the accompanying photograph, this section is now closed to vehicular traffic.
A GREF team arrived at the spot early this morning and started restoration works.
B/R Grade II, PC Joshi, of GREF, who is supervising the restoration works, informs that the jhora washed away the culvert under the road resulting in a portion of the road collapsing.
He informed that GREF personnel and labourers have been hard at work at the spot and that temporary restoration to open the road for traffic will be completed by Tuesday evening, weather permitting.
