34 beneficiaries receive allotment letters for pucca house construction at Poklok-Denchung GPU

NAMCHI, 09 June: Under the Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission [CMRHM] 34 families from Poklok-Denchung GPU received allotment letters for construction of Pucca Houses under the Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission from the Rural Management & Development Department today.
The State Government intends to make Sikkim the first poverty-free State in the country and has called on elected representatives at all levels to extend all necessary cooperation in achieving the set goal for which Rs.33 Crores have been earmarked considering the poverty free mission. Under this mission a total of 6,000 houses will be built within three years, whereas the landless farmers will also be provided with half acre of land by the Government of Sikkim.

Implementation of the scheme in the state under Mission Poverty Free Sikkim-2013 began from the CM’s constituency Poklok- Kamrang, South Sikkim.
Today, BDO Jorethang, Shuvha Mukhia, informed the beneficiaries that the list was finalised in abidance with the policy directives and guidelines of the scheme. She informed that a committee was formed for the implementation of the scheme and the team visited homes of individual beneficiaries of the GPU and shortlisted 34 families.
She further informed that under this scheme, no contractor will be involved in the construction of houses which will be carried out by the owners themselves with financial assistance of Rs 3.50 lakh (including the cost of 54 GCI sheets) and that the new houses should be completed within 6 months from the date of receipt of allotment letters.
Those who finish construction within the stipulated time of 6 months will be granted another Rs. 10,000 as an incentive in addition to the project cost and the house must be constructed according to certain basic minimum standards.
Chief guest for today’s function, the Tea Board chairman, Gagan Rai, in his address said that the committee had visited individual houses of the beneficiaries and finally 34 genuine families had been chosen. He also rued today that government schemes were not being properly implemented in the rural areas and were being misused.
He also informed the beneficiaries that families alone cannot construct their houses so they should take help from their neighbours as well. The committee will make regular visits to the construction sites, he added.
