FIRs by police assault victims get registered finally

GANGTOK, 27 July: The Bar Association of Sikkim has informed that the two First Information Reports [FIR] filed by two members of the Court fraternity who were allegedly physically assaulted by the then SP [East], Manoj Tewari on 16 July were finally registered on 24 July, reportedly with the intervention of the High Court of Sikkim.
A BAS press release informs that the Association, in a meeting held on 17 July, had unanimously resolved to apprise the Judges of the High Court of Sikkim and seek their intervention. As resolved in the meeting, copies of the two FIRs filed by the victims [dated 17 July 2014] along with the medical reports of the aforesaid victims were placed before the High Court.
With the intervention of the High Court of Sikkim, the FIRs which were otherwise kept unregistered since 17.07.2014, were finally registered on 24.07.2014, the BAS press release details, adding that the association expresses hope that law will now take its proper course.
