Local cable TV violating broadcasting rules, SKM alleges

GANGTOK, 31 Oct: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha [SKM] has sought clarification from the Urban Development and Housing Department for what it sees as overlooking of alleged violation of broadcasting rules and norms by the local Cable TV Network.
An SKM release informs that SKM vice president, Tseten Lepcha along with Navraj Gurung met the UD&HD Secretary, Topjor Dorjee, seeking clarification on allegations of the local cable TV network supporting the ruling party and its use as an election campaign tool.
As per TRAI Act 2005 Cable TV Networks are prohibited from carrying any political news other than prescribed programmes under the Act, the release mentions. SKM has demanded that the broadcasting rules be strictly followed.
