Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar recipient from Tashiding calls on Governor

GANGTOK, 18 Sept: Mickma Tshering Lepcha of Tashiding, West Sikkim, who was conferred the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for 2011 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi recently, was felicitated by Governor Shriniwas Patil today. He was accompanied by Nalini G Pradhan, Commissioner cum Secretary, Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department, an official press communiqué informs.
During the course of interaction, the Governor lauded and congratulated Mr. Lepcha for the award and milestone achieved and expressed the desire that local artists be selected and given an equal opportunity to perform in various prominent functions in the metropolitan cities in India and abroad for the purpose of providing them exposure and a greater platform to the local artists of Sikkim.
Mr. Lepcha was presented the award on 07 September by Leela Samson, Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi at a function in New Delhi for his accomplishments in Lepcha Folk Music.
