Attack could be politically motivated: Goley

GANGTOK, 05 Sept: Disgruntled SDF MLA from Upper Burtuk, PS Goley [Tamang], has strongly condemned the attack on Dr. Subash Tamang at Dentam PHC in West Sikkim by three miscreants this morning.
Mr. Goley, through a press release issued today, states that the incident was the most “inhuman act of cowardice” in Sikkim’s history.
While wishing speedy recovery to Dr. Tamang, he had demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers “along with the mastermind behind the incident”.
Citing possibility of a political vendetta, Mr. Goley contends that Dr. Tamang could have been a victim of politics as he had already served suspension after he was linked to the Rolu Picnic episode of 2009.
“Chances are high that this attack was a politically motivated,” he writes.
He adds that Dr. Tamang’s service was later revoked but after serving for less than one and a half months at Dentam PHC, he was recently transferred to Chungthang PHC.
Mr. Tamang has also conveyed speedy recovery wishes to Durga Devi Sharma and Rezina Rai, health workers of the PHC, who were also injured in the assault.
