GANGTOK, 07 Jan: Sikkim Police arrested one Lop Rai, also known as Kumar Rai, a 40-year-old resident of Bhutia basti, Darjeeling, at Jorethang with explosives on 06 January.
Police sources inform that they were alerted to the accused when he was “creating nuisance” at Jorethang Bazar and when accosted and searched, two sticks of Gelatine (measuring 40mm x 300mm) of Indian Limited Explosives, Gomia 829112 BP and Power Gel/ Dorica 801 explosive substances were recovered from his possession. He did not have any documents to explain the contraband.
Sikkim Police has registered a case against the accused under section 5 [Punishment for making or possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances] of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
DIG Range, Dr. MS Tuli, informs that the accused person was produced before the Magistrate court today and remanded to police custody.
