Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment comes into force in Sikkim

Buildings & Housing Deptt to ensure GRIHA compliance by govt buildings

GANGTOK, 20 Jan: The State Government has notified the distribution of subjects among Departments under the Government of Sikkim (Allocation of Business) Rules, 2004 and entrusted the Buildings & Housing Department to act as the nodal agency to ensure compliance to GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment).
In a notification published in the first week of January 2015, the Buildings & Housing Department has been entrusted this new task of ensuring compliance to GRIHA, the National Rating System for Green Buildings jointly developed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi.
The notification comes into force with immediate effect and now all Government and semi-Government structures in the State [Residential, Non-residential, Healthcare, Institutional, Industrial, Recreational etc], including those belonging to autonomous bodies like Boards, Corporation, Companies and Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), will need to conform to minimum 3-Stars GRIHA rating for propagating sustainable development in the State.
