GANGTOK, 28 Jan [IPR]: The Chief Minister
Pawan Chamling and Mrs. Tika Maya Chamling have expressed their deep, profound
and heart-felt condolence on the sudden demise of Justice Radha Krushna Patra,
the former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, and presently the Chairman Law
Commission.
He was 72 years old and was under treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack since 24 January 2015. He was admitted in the hospital after he complained of chest pain and was diagnosed with pneumonia and respiratory problems.
He breathed his last on the morning of 28 January at 9:30 am and is survived by his wife Madam Laxmi Patra and daughter.
In his condolence message the Chief Minister has stated, "It is with very heavy heart that I offer my heartfelt condolences on the sad and untimely passing away of Justice R.K Patra a great and gifted human being with rare qualities identifiable only with him.
The Late Justice was loved and respected by one and all for his simplicity, gentlemanly behaviour and above all as a jurist par excellence. Though an astute jurist he possessed a great deal of compassion, kindness and other humanely attributes which set him as a man with a very good heart.
In his passing away, we have not only lost an eminent personality in the judiciary, but also a person who always held Sikkim close to his heart.
Personally to me also I have lost a friend, whom I held in high esteem. The void created by his loss is simply irreparable.
I have requested the Law Minister Shri R.B Subba to represent the state Government in paying our condolences and homage to the departed soul.
I once again offer my heartfelt condolences to Smt Patra, daughter Gayatri and all the family members. May the departed soul rest in peace and may the Almighty give you and your family members strength and forbearance at this moment of loss and grief".
