HE WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR HIS YEOMAN SERVICE TO INDIAN GORKHAS - CM
GANGTOK, 30 Jan: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has expressed deep sadness on the demise of Subhash Ghisingh on 29 January at New Delhi. Late Ghisingh was the founder of Gorkha National Liberation Front.
In his condolence message posted on Facebook, the CM has said, "I have been deeply saddened on hearing the passing away of Shri Subhash Ghisingh, the Founder of Gorkha National Liberation Front on 29th January at New Delhi. My prayers and condolences are with the bereaved family. Late Shri Subhash Ghisingh will always be remembered for his yeoman service to the Indian Gorkhas who had been pining for their identity in view of their immense contributions made in maintaining the sovereignty, integrity of the country as well as in defence of the motherland not forgetting the contributions made in the freedom struggle. The credit for raising the Gorkhaland Statehood and identity issues of the Indian Gorkhas at the National level goes entirely to Late Shri Ghisingh. It was his movement for a separate Statehood for Indian Gorkhas that led to the creation of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council. Late Shri Ghisingh was also a literary personality and a novelist. I have lost a good friend whom I held in high esteem. On his demise the Indian Gorkha community has lost a stalwart, visionary and a senior leader. I pray for eternal peace of his soul and may the Almighty give the family members strength and forbearance at this moment of loss and grief".
The ruling Sikkim Democratic Front party has also condoled the demise of GNLF supremo Subhash Ghisingh. The party has said that he was highly respected and a visionary leader of Darjeeling Hills and has also conveyed prayers for eternal peace of the departed soul.
