Justice NK Jain sworn in as Chief Justice of Sikkim

GANGTOK, 7 Jan: Justice N K Jain of Sikkim High Court was  sworn in as Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court here at Ashirwad Bhawan, Raj bhawan on 7 January. Governor Srinivas Dadasahib Patil administered oath of secrecy to Acting Chief Justice Jain who is now the 17th CJ of Sikkim High Court.
The notification of elevation to Chief Justice was read out by the Registrar General, High Court of Sikkim K C Burfungpa. On signing and attestation of the solemn oath/affirmation relating to the assumption of office as CJ, Sikkim High Court all the dignities offered khadas to Mr. Justice Narendra Kumar Jain. The swearing-in ceremony was also attended by the 2 Members of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Speaker, State Legislatures, Judge High Court of Sikkim, MLA’s and Chairpersons, Advisors, Commissioners, Chief Secretary and Secretaries, HODs, Senior Advocates and members of Bar Council of Sikkim, Senior Citizen and other Guests. However, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was not present at Swearing-in-ceremony, since he is in New Delhi;  senior most Minister of the Chamling cabinet Ran Bahadur Subba was present in his stead. It may be mentioned here that Chief Justice Jain is due to retire on superannuation after attending the age of 62 in October 2014.
Justice Narendra Kumar Jain was born on 8 October, 1952 at Newai, District Tonk, Rajasthan and completed his Bachelors of Law (LL.B) in the year 1977 from University of Delhi. He was elevated as a permanent Judge of the Rajasthan High Court on 2 September 2004. He was nominated as the Administrative Judge on 21 November 2012. He was the Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court from 14 December 2012 to 2 January 2013. He has also been serving as Acting Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court since the past few months.
