Road Safety and Traffic Education Week begins Sunday

GANGTOK, 24 Oct: Sikkim Police [Traffic Division] is all set to observe the 24th Road Safety and Traffic Education Week here in the Capital from 27 October to 02 November, informed Ongmu Bhutia [DSP, Traffic, Sikkim Police], during a press conference held at the office of the Superintendent of Police [East] today.
The first day [27 October] of the road safety week will see spot painting and quiz competitions on road safety which will be held at Deorali Girls Senior Secondary School at Deorali from 9 a.m. onwards.
On 28 and 29 October the Sikkim Traffic Police are going to do undertake checking of vehicles on usage of mobile phones while driving, use of seat belts, drunken driving and documents of the vehicles.
On 30 October, a road safety walk with placards carried by school children, drivers association, NGOs and other concerned organizations starting from Titanic Park all the way upto Zero Point and back will be organized by Sikkim Traffic Police.
The walk will begin from 9 a.m. onwards and then from 11 a.m. onwards while a visit of the road safety exhibition at Titanic Park by school children and general public will also be held. Later, announcement of road safety at different intersections, taxi stands, bus stand and truck stands will be done.
On 31 October and 01 November, the Traffic Police will do vehicle checking, challaning on drunken driving, over speeding, over loading, dangerous driving, driving by unauthorized persons, qualities of helmet, lane discipline and proper vehicle documents will be done.
On 02 November, a closing event is going to be held at the Titanic Park.
