GANGTOK, 13 Feb: The state of Sikkim is now gearing up for the upcoming state level North East games scheduled to be held in the state capital of Gangtok. The state level NE games are due to be held here from 12 to 14 March. This will be followed by the North East Games 2011-2012 scheduled to be held in Aizwal, Mizoram from 20 to 23 March, 2012. Athletes and teams participating in the state level competition will be selected to participate and represent Sikkim in the North East Games in Aizwal.
A number of sporting events are scheduled to be included in the NE games for which purpose different events will be held in different venues located in and around Gangtok. In fact, it is informed that the Games will include eight different sporting disciplines.
The shortlisted teams and athletes in the district-level North East Games will be representing their respective district in the state-level competition. The east district has already completed the district-level competitions, while other three districts are scheduled to conduct their district-level competitions at their respective districts soon.
The state-level North East Games as stated will be a selection trial for the athletes for the upcoming North-East Games. The selected teams and athletes in the state-level competition will be representing Sikkim in the XXVIth North East Games 2011-12 scheduled to be held at Aizwal in Mizoram from 20 to 23 March.
