VHAS and SU undertake joint study and relief tour of affected areas

GANGTOK, 30 Sept: Voluntary Health Association of Sikkim in collaboration with Sikkim University undertook the immediate relief activities to the earthquake victims in various places of Sikkim, informs a press release issued by the Executive Director, VHAS, BB Rai. 
The team, till 25 Sept, was engaged in reaching relief in the East District at Nandok, Kamarey and Raley villages. In spite of the inclement weather, the relief team met with the villagers of Kamarey and Raley on 23 Sept and distributed tents to 5 families at Kamarey and 15 families at Raley as an immediate option for shelter.
A relief team of VHAS has also been stationed at Upper Barfok and Shipgyer in Upper Dzongu and is extending help to the victims at various hamlets by providing them First Aid and Counseling, the release informs. 
On 27 and 28 Sept the team delivered relief and other assistance at Sombarey, Lungyam, Rumbuk, Ribdi and Bhareng in West Sikkim.
The relief team encountered two relief camps - at Nasa which which is providing shelter to 36 persons from 5 families and at Daragaon, Monew, where 4 families of 15 persons are being sheltered.
Another 56 persons from 12 families have been accommodated at a Relief Camp at Sai Mandir, Daramdin, the release informs.
The release further informs that the relief activities are being carried out in close coordination with various agencies, CBOs and government officials of the respective places. 
VHAS is also planning to augment the relief works and initiate other long-term activities to rehabilitate victims from severely damaged areas. It has also welcomed donations from institutions, organizations and individuals for the earthquake victims and for efforts to help restore normal life.
