Kickboxers leave for national championship


GANGTOK: A 14-member Sikkim Association of Kickboxing Organizations [SAKO] team has left to represent Sikkim at the 16th Junior & 17th Senior National Kickboxing Championship scheduled to be held from 07 to 10 April at Angul, Orissa.
The team is led by coach Navin Rai and manager, Tempa Gyatso Lepcha.

The team members were shortlisted from among 60 candidates at a selection camp and have undergone an intensive week-long coaching camp at Paljor Stadium indoor gymnasium.
The participants were trained under the supervision of BB Subba, who was also assisted by Dechen Lepcha, Navin Rai and Bijay Gurung.
SAKO was formed in Sikkim in the year 2008 and has around 60 registered players across the state who have been participating in national championships regularly since then.
Speaking to media persons, Mr Subba, who is also the general secretary of the organization, informed that the team members are in peak form and expected to perform well at the championship.
He further informed that in the last edition of the championship, Mohan Rai had won a gold medal and Shezay Lepcha a silver for the state.
