3 Sikkim women in Indian squad for World Veterans TT tourney SAGAR CHHETRI

GANGTOK, 04 May: Three veteran women paddlers from Sikkim will be participating in the 14th World Veterans Table Tennis Championship to be held in Auckland, New Zealand from 12 to 17 May.
The three paddlers are PJ Lama in 60-plus category, and Pema Yolmo and Sashi Dong in 40-plus category. These three paddlers are members of the 90-member Indian Veteran’s team that will participate in the world championship.
Around 1700 veterans from different countries across the world are expected to participate in the championship. They will be leaving on 07 May for the championship.
In a function organized by Sikkim Veterans Table Tennis Association [SVTTA], SVTTA members and other paddlers of the state have expressed their best wishes to the three players.
On the occasion, SVTTA also felicitated PJ Lama for winning a bronze medal in the 21st national Veterans Table Tennis Championship held at Dharmshala in Himachal Pradesh earlier this year.
In his address, SVTTA president, SB Subba mentioned that after the formation of the association in 2006 and with the hard work of every member, SVTTA has achieved lots of achievements. He informed that last year a veteran team from Sikkim had also participated in an international championship held in Bangkok. This is the second time that a veterans’ team from Sikkim is participating in an international championship, he added.
Mr Subba appreciated the efforts and hard work of PJ Lama at this age and for winning four national medals for the state.
On behalf of paddlers of the state, the SVTTA general secretary, Kuber Bhandari expressed best wishes to all three veteran players for the world championship.
Ms Yolmo and Ms Lama thanked the SVTTA and STTA for the opportunity to play for the country. They expressed that they would give their best in the world championship to bring glory for the state and the nation.
