Sikkim Rehab and Detox Society observes World AIDS Day

GANGTOK, 01 Dec: Sikkim Rehabilitation and Detoxification Society observed World AIDS Day today with a Free Health Camp supported by Sikkim State AIDS Control Society at Ranipool Bazaar.
A press release informs that the programme was organized on the theme ‘Getting to Zero: Zero new HIV infections, Zero discrimination, Zero AIDS related deaths’. President, Rev Joseph Tamang spoke on HIV/AIDS among Injecting Drug Users.
Project Manager, Rinzing Bhutia spoke on the importance of World AIDS Day where she informed that the day is being observed since 1988 in order to fight against the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS, to support HIV infected persons and to spread awareness on the disease.
The programme was followed by a signature campaign, free health camp and distribution of IEC materials. A film on HIV/AIDS was also screened on the day, the release mentions.
