Slips and slides continue in South Sikkim


NAMCHI, 20 July: Heavy rain continues to trouble South Sikkim as numerous land slips and uprooting of trees are being reported from various parts of the district. On 19 July, the heavy downpour uprooted some trees which fell and damaged three latticed structures at Chirbirey forest area. This also disrupted the 11 KV alternative power supply from Melli to Jorethang. Thus far, supply lines up to Bharikhola have been restored. 
On the night of 18 July, heavy rain damaged three kutcha houses belonging to Devika Pradhan of Mellidara, Jit Bdr. Rai and Santa Kr. Rai of Lungchok and a dry field belonging to Babita Rai of Lungchok has also been reportedly damaged.
The road from Salghari-Chisopani to Assangthang village has been blocked due to a mudslide. Similarly, the water supply line from Heekhola to Middle Kerabari has been badly damaged due to heavy rain as per information provided by the South District Disaster Management Authorities.
