CM conferred Bharat Asmita Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar, 2012


GANGTOK, 03 Feb: The MIT group of Institutions, Pune, India has conferred the honour of Bharat Asmita Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar 2012 , Special Award for Life Time Achievement to Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim. At a well attended function the Chief Minister was handed over the award, a plaque, a citation, and shawl, by Dr. R A Mashelkar Padma Bhushan, and Chairman of the Bharat Asmita National Awards Committee.
The other imminent recipients of awards in their respective fields were Nana Patekar, actor/ director, Siddartha Basu, Mass media, Prof S Parasuraman, Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Prof Samir K Brahmachari, Director General, CSIR and Jayant Chaudhary, MP Lok Sabha.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister apprised the gathering about the various developmental strides the state had taken in various areas such as Catch, Green Mission, Kutcha house free mission. While addressing the student community of MIT institute he urged the younger generation to inculcate the values of hard work, sincerity, and responsibilities and contribute towards nation building.

Started in 2005, the Bharat Asmita National Award is a prestigious award given to prominent luminaries in various fields such as education, social and political fields, science and technology etc. In the past some prominent recipients of these awards were T N Seshan, former Chief Election Commissioner, Jyotiraditya Sindhia, Rajdeep Sardesai, Mallika Sarabai and Bharka Dutt of NDTV.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by his wife Ms Tika Maya Chamling, O.T. Lepcha, MP Rajya Sabha, Principal Secretary to HCM and Secretary IPR.
