Handmade paper products manufacturing unit set up in Jorethang


GANGTOK, 20 Jan: The Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., on 18 January, set up a production unit for the manufacture of handmade paper products in the working shed of the District Industries Centre at Jorethang, South Sikkim.
Sixteen artisans trained under the capacity building programme conducted by the State Institute of Capacity Building, Karfectar have been absorbed as workers in the newly set-up unit, informs a press release.
The objective behind setting up such a production unit is to generate employment opportunities and to create awareness on recycling waste as the handmade paper products are made by entirely from waste materials which is eco-friendly and contributes to a healthier environment, the release mentions.
The products manufactured in the unit will be supplied to State Government offices located in South and West districts, the release adds.
