Palzor Lachungpa conferred Indian Leadership Award for Hospitality and Tourism

GANGTOK, 13 Oct: Former TAAS president, Palzor Lachungpa, proprietor, Blue Sky Tours and Travels, was conferred the Indian Leadership Award for Hospitality and Tourism, a category at the National Seminar on “Outstanding Contributions To National Development” organised by the All India Achiever’s Foundation at New Delhi last evening.
However, the responsibilities related to rehabilation and relief entrusted on the entrepreneur after the 18 September earthquake prevented him from attending the function which was held at Gulmohar Hall, Habitat World, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
The award was received on his behalf by Assistant Manager [Customer Experience, Teleperformance India] Tashi Tongden Lepcha, who is also a relative of Mr. Lachungpa.
Mr. Lepcha, speaking over the phone from Delhi informed that the award was received on Mr. Lachungpa’s behalf by him at a grand function which was attended by Former Director CBI, Joginder Singh, former Governor of Tamil Nadu and Assam, BN Singh, former Election Commissioner of India, GVG Krishnamurthy, former Governor of Punjab and Chief Justice of India, Justice OP Verma, AICC member, Harikesh Bahadur, and Secretary General IEDRA, Ranjan Uberoi.
“I conveyed the message that Mr. Lachungpa was honoured to receive this award but also made a statement where the extent of damage of the earthquake in Sikkim had prevented Mr. Lachungpa to be on the podium receieving the award personally. The severity of the damage in North Sikkim due to the earthquake was on everyone’s mind and thus the award was also received in all humility and dedicated to the people who lost their lives in the September 18 earthquake,” informed Tashi Tongden.
Speaking to NOW! today, Mr. Lachungpa informed that the letter of intimation on his selection for the award was sent to him just a few days before the disaster hit Sikkim and affected North Sikkim, the very area he has been awarded for promoting in a huge way.
“Actually, the excitement of receiving the award has been overshadowed by what happened after the earthquake, however, this award means that North Sikkim as a tourist destination is on the right track and I know that this award will motivate the people of North Sikkim to work even harder to restore the booming tourism in the area as soon as possible,” he stated.
While stating that the certificate and the mementos were yet to arrive from Delhi, he informed that the award was possible because of the tremendous effort put in by all sections of people involved in the tourism industry in Sikkim who had made North Sikkim a premier tourist destination in the country.
“The award has been possible because of the Blue Sky team and all the people who have responsibly worked to take North Sikkim to where it is now. The letter that I received prior to the earthquake stated that it was for the pioneering work in tourism promotion and excellent services. They also stated that the continuous team effort from our dedicated team was an observation which entitled us to be awarded.
It may be informed that Blue Sky has also received the Best Tour Operator of Sikkim-2008 award from the Government of Sikkim, Best Innovative Tour Operator of Sikkim in 2009 by Government of Sikkim and also the Best Travel / Tour Operator of Sikkim in the year 2010 by the Government of Sikkim.
