Sikkim Police-A wins North and East Region volleyball tournament

The East and North Region Volleyball tournament, sponsored by NHPC, concluded
yesterday and the organisation to make the event a national level tournament
next year. Hope they spell the  sport correctly next time around.
GANGTOK, 02 March: Sikkim Police-A yesterday lifted the district-level volleyball tournament for the East and North districts sponsored by NHPC and held in association with NGO, Yuwa Jagriti Sangh, of Lower Samdong from 02 Feb to 01 March. The tournament had begun with the inauguration at the Tumin-Barang Primary School Ground and the final match was played at the NHPC Kendriya Vidyalaya school ground at Balutar near Singtam and had the HRD Minister, NK Pradhan, who also holds the Sports & Youth Affairs portfolio as the chief guest.

An NHPC press release informs that a total of 20 teams from the two districts participated in the tournament. The final match was an all-Sikkim Police affair with Sikkim Police-A taking on Sikkim Police-B for the trophy. Both teams were from Gangtok. The match went to the wire and was decided after a grueling five sets which ended with Sikkim Police-A emerging victorious.
The winner’s bagged the trophy and Rs. 30,000 in cash while the runners-up pocketed Rs. 20,000 in cash-prize along with a trophy.
Yuwa Jagriti Sangh of Samdong, the second runner-up received a cash-prize of Rs. 10,000 and a trophy.
Birendra Bistha of Sikkim Police-A was adjudged the man-of-the-match while Prashant Poudyal of Yuwa Jagriti Sangh was declared the man-of-the-series.
The press release conveys that NHPC, “overwhelmed by the grand success achieved in this tournament”, has decided to organize a state-level volleyball tournament next year.
