PM commends SDF Govt’s developmental achievements


GANGTOK, 04 March: Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh has appreciated Sikkim’s developmental achievements.
This, reportedly in conversation with Lok Sabha MP, PD Rai when he submitted a letter to him on 27 February wishing the Prime Minister and the UPA government on behalf of the Chief Minister and the people of Sikkim.

A press release issued by Mr Rai, who is also the spokesperson of Sikkim Democratic Front, informs that the Prime Minister remarked that it is ‘noteworthy to see the result oriented work being done by the Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling in the state’.
“Prime Minister further pointed out that he has heard about many good things about the progress of Sikkim”, Mr Rai adds.
The release informed that Mr Rai also thanked the Prime Minister on behalf of the government of Sikkim for his consistent support to the development programme being carried out ‘assiduously’ by the state government.
The letter states, “We are part of the UPA and would like to update you and our efforts to secure equity for the people of Sikkim through our development programs and our sincere implementation of all other centrally sponsored schemes.”
It also expresses gratitude to the UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, and Prime Minister for having accorded three prestigious awards to the state for performance under MGNREGA recently.
“This shows our sincerity in bring sustainable development and progress to our state which results in lasting peace in an otherwise troubled neigbourhood”, the letter adds.
The letter also informs that the state was focused on creating a Poverty-Free Sikkim and achieving 100 percent literacy by 2015 on in mission mode.
The PM is also by informed that the state was embarking on documenting the progress achieved publishing the State Human Development Report 2011.
