GANGTOK, 11 Feb: The Sikkim Social Empowerment Association, in a meeting held today, condemned the killing of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha supporters in a Police firing on 08 Feb at Sibchu in West Bengal, a press release informs.
The meeting conveyed its deepest condolences on the deaths and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident, the release adds.
The meeting also observed that the Gorkhas have been raising a rightful demand within the framework of the Indian Constitution and that the creation of a separate state would help in recognition of their contribution to the nation as well give them their identity, the release states.
The association looks forward for the creation of a Gorkhaland, where, the release expresses with confidence, “their rightful demands would be heard with patience.”
