Namchi meets to discuss garbage management

Namchi, 09 Feb [IPR]: A meeting on Garbage Management/ Recycle plant was held at the Namchi Municipal Council conference hall today with the Scheduled Tribe Welfare Board chairperson, Lama Pem Tshering Bhutia, as chief guest. The meeting was presided by DC (South) Raj Kumar Yadav alongside SDM (Namchi) Bimal Chandra Rai, NMC (Vice Chairman) NH Ansari and officials from UD&HD, Forest Department and Councilors from NMC.
The DC spoke about the need for behavioral change in the public with regards to garbage management. He discussed the need for holistic development for proper functioning garbage dumping management, appropriate waste solutions and a comprehensive and integrated approach to waste management at Sipchu dumping ground.
Highlighting the need for specialized bins, the DC spoke about informing the people of Namchi about segregating waste. He also underlined the standard necessary precautions required while collecting and dumping garbage and that there should be acceptable levels of basic waste management service provision. Moreover, the DC informed that a follow up meeting will be held soon with regards to the matter of garbage management.
NMC Vice Chairman Mr. Ansari gave a detailed report on the NMC and how it has handled garbage disposable in Namchi since inception. He also informed that soon a sensitization program to explain the efficient ways for segregation of waste will be conducted in all the wards of Namchi.
Mr. Ansari stressed the need to focus on eliminating uncontrolled disposal, followed by systematically increasing technical standards and responsible   planning of collecting, transporting, processing and disposing of biodegradable and non- biodegradable waste management.
The meeting also included a detailed presentation by GBT on utilizing of various kinds of waste management systems which can be applied in Namchi.
