Orientation programme on Organic Mission at Namchi

NAMCHI, 22 Dec: A day-long orientation programme on Organic Mission cum training programme on Internal Control System was organized today here at Namchi Municipal Conference hall with the aim to sensitize panchayats, progressive farmers, field supervisors and field functionaries. The programme was organized by MR Morarka GDC Rural Research Foundation.
Present as the chief guest, NMC Chairman, BT Tamang said that it is the mission of the state government to give better opportunities to the farmers through organic farming. Though the production in organic farming is lower but such organic crops and vegetables have high value and are in huge demand in the national and international market, he said. Mr Tamang urged all the participants to cooperate with the state government and make this mission successful.
Additional Director Sikkim Organic Mission, Dr Yashodha Pradhan in her address informed that such a programme was being organized in different BACs of South district. Stating that it is the state government’s mission to make the state fully organic by 2015 she urged for cooperation from the panchayats, officers and farmers.
Power point presentation on negative effects of chemical fungicides and fertilizers was also made where the resource persons highlighted the pros and cons of organic farming system.
