Golay criticizes CM’s birthday celebration, blames hydel projects for landslides

GANGTOK, 23 Sept: The dissident SDF MLA from Upper Burtuk, PS Tamang, has criticized the celebration of the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling’s birthday on Saturday in the wake of the havoc created by landslides in North Sikkim.
A press release issued by Jacob Khaling informs that Mr Tamang, while addressing the people of Tashiding in West Sikkim accused, the Chief Minister of not being concerned about the situation in North Sikkim. He urged the people of Tashiding to raise their voice against the Chamling-regime.

The Sikkim Democratic Front party has been celebrating the CM’s birthday as Garib Unmolan Diwas since the party came to power in December 1994.
Accusing the CM of being “anti-people”, Mr Tamang urged the people to participate in the upcoming Panchayat election and vote for the people’s candidate, the release mentions.
“The ruling SDF party has emotionally blackmailed the Sikkimese people for 18 years and it is time now for them to wake up to counter the blackmailing”, he said.
Raising the issue of the Rathong Chu hydel project, the MLA said that people should protest against the Lethang and Tashiding power projects adding that these projects will also create a situation similar to that of North Sikkim where a sizeable number of power projects are under construction.
This stand has been welcomed by the Denjong Chyarig Tsogpa, which, in a press communiqué issued by its president Sonam Dadul Denzongpa, has “appreciate and acknowledged” the stand adopted by the MLA. The entire Buddhist fraternity in general and the BLs in particular are thankful to Mr. Golay and look forward for his further perusal of the matter to ensure the sacredness of our rich religious heritage, the release states.
Mr Tamang, in his address, also blamed power projects for the landslides in North Sikkim.
