Kazi Sherpa summits Everest


GANGTOK, 20 May [IPR]: Mountaineer Kazi Sherpa successfully mounted the summit of Mount Everest at 10 am on 19 May. Mr Sherpa of Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Ecotourism, Chemchey represented the state as a member of the Mount Everest Expedition 2012 from South Col, Nepal.
As per information received from the Director, Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Ecotourism, South Sikkim, GT Bhutia the expedition team had reached the Everest Base Camp one on May 15 and proceeded towards Camp two on 16 May.  He further informed that Mr Sherpa along with his team reached Camp three on 17 May and started their expedition towards Camp four on 18 May.
On the same day, Mr Sherpa continued his expedition towards the peak at 11 pm and successfully reached the summit on Saturday, Mr Bhutia informed. The Director informs that Mr Sherpa hoisted the Indian National Flag and offered prayers on the summit.
He will be halting at Camp four and returning by the end of this month. It may be mentioned here that the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling had flagged off Mr Sherpa from Mintokgang here on 27 March, 2012.
