CARE reaches AIDS and suicide prevention awareness to Carmel College


GANGTOK, 18 March: Concern for Complete Life [CARE], a Gangtok-based self-supporting NGO, held an awareness session on AIDS and suicide prevention at the Carmel College, Pakyong, on 16 March, a CARE press release informs.
CARE, the release highlights, has been organizing various seminars and workshops and radio plays, skits, power-point presentations and discussions with experts on these issues in different parts of Sikkim.
The Carmel College event, organised on the invitation of the management, began with an introduction on CARE and its 8 Millennium Development goals highlighted by the CARE president, Shasi Kumar Rai, followed by a power-point presentation on suicides, its dimensions, challenges and intervention by Ongdup Lepcha, the CARE secretary. The deliberation on HIV and AIDS was conducted by Milan Rai, co-ordinator, CARE.
Also on the day, the GCYF, EPCS, Gangtok, presented a skit on the dangers of substance abuse while songs by Sangey Doma Bhutia and Rukesh Tamang added some cheer to the day’s events.
