Week-long pickle making training concludes at Lamaten

GANGTOK, 23 June: Week-long pickle making training concluded at Lamaten Gram Prashasan Kendra, East Sikkim on Sunday. The training which began on 16 June was conducted under Capacity Building Programme of Integrated Watershed Management Programme II, East District by State Level Nodal Agency, Forest, Environment and Wildlife Management Department.
The valedictory function was attended by Srijana Rai [Zilla Panchayat], CP Sharma [ACF-cum-PIA, IWMP II East],  Norden Bhutia [Panchayat President-cum-Secretary, Lamaten micro watershed], Rachit Dewan [Programmer (Livelihood), SLNA] and members from watershed committees.
A press release informs that the training was conducted by Mahesh Dawari and two members of his group from Green Grocers, a Gangtok based pickle making company. During the week-long training twenty beneficiaries from three self-help groups created under IWMP were trained on making various types of pickles with locally available edibles participated. The trainees were mostly unemployed women from three micro watersheds viz. Lamaten, Lok-Chujachen and training.
This is first time that pickle making training has been conducted in East Sikkim by SLNA under Rolep. Training completion certificates and pickle making tools kits along with induction sealing machine were distributed to the trainees by the Zilla Panchayat and PIA, the release informs.
The Zilla Panchayat in her address congratulated the participants for successfully completing the training and thanked the entire team and the Department for organizing such beneficial training for the villagers. She further added that the Forest Department has created an opportunity towards economic upliftment of the self-help groups and hence they should capitalize on this and work towards self-development and the development of the village.
CP Sharma, in his brief address thanked the trainees for maintaining sincerity, punctuality and hundred percent attendance throughout the training period. He added that locally made pickles have good demand amongst locals as well as tourists. He urged the trainees to capitalize on the skills imparted to mark a new beginning. He also thanked Green Grocers group for conducting the training in an efficient and effective manner.
Rachit Dewan briefed the trainees on the various capacity building and livelihood programmes being taken up under IWMP in all the four districts of the State for the benefit of the rural people. He urged trainees to be progressive and take maximum benefit out of the support provided by the Department.
He further added that such training programmes and other livelihood activities carried out under IWMP would help in empowering the poor rural community specially women and unemployed youth and making them self-reliant
The trainees thanked the Department for giving them opportunity to attend such beneficial training.
