It is to be mentioned here that a total of 47,432 voters will decide the fate of 42 candidates contesting for the 17 seats of Gangtok Municipal Corporation. Similarly, 12 candidates are on the fray for 5 seats of Rangpo Nagar Panchayat which has 4,941 voters while for Singtam Nagar Panchayat, a total of 3,656 voters are casting their votes to elect 5 councilors from the 11 candidates contesting the elections.
In Namchi, 5,096 voters will cast their votes to elect six councilors out of 13 candidates contesting the elections. One seat of the Namchi Municipal Council, that of Upper Boomtar having a total of 621 voters, has already been won by SDF candidate Tulsi Devi Thatal uncontested.
For Jorethang Municipal Corporation, 14 candidates are in the fray for seven municipal wards for which 5,495 voters are going to cast their votes.
Gyalshing, the lone Municipal unit in West Sikkim is seeing elections only for two of its seven Municipal wards. Voting is underway for Central Gyalshing and New Gyalshing wards. The remaining five seats have already been won uncontested by the SDF.
It may be recalled that there is no voting for Mangan Nagar Panchayat as all the five wards there have been won uncontested by the SDF party.
The State Election Commission also informs that Electronic Voting Machines [EVMs] for Lal Bazar-Singtam, Rongyek and Power Department polling stations had to be replaced due to technical reasons.
