Street play spreads awareness on leprosy


GANGTOK, 12 Feb: ‘Paap Haina’, a street play was staged at different locations in the capital by a Tathangchen based NGO, Youth Welfare Association, with the aim to create awareness on leprosy by providing the correct message to the people on Sunday. This street play was part of the Anti Leprosy Fortnight organized by the Health Care, Human Service & Family Welfare Department.
The play, written by SB Rai ‘Sapana’ and directed by DK Lepcha, was performed by Hemant Rai, Deepak Dhakal, DK Lepcha, SB Rai, Mingma Tamang and Junu Chettri. The play was first performed in front of Denzong cinema hall and then at Thakurbari complex and finally in front of the Tourism Office at MG Marg.
Messages like leprosy is 100% curable, deformities are due to delayed or incomplete information, MDT are freely available at all government health centers and leprosy is caused by a bacteria and not a sin or curse, was disseminated through the street play.
