KICK BOXERS TO PARTICIPATE IN WAKO WORLD KICKBOXING C'SHIP 2015 FROM 21-29 NOV IN IRELAND Three kick boxers from Sikkim have been selected to represent the country in the upcoming WAKO World Kickboxing Championship 2015 to be held from 21 to 29 November at Dublin, Ireland. They are part of the 40-member Indian team that will participate in the Championship.
The kick boxers from Sikkim are Bijoy Gurung, Sushmita Rai and Phurba Sherpa. It has to be mentioned here that Sushmita was selected on the basis of her silver medal win in the Asian Championship, while Bijoy and Phurba were shortlisted for winning national gold medals recently.
Among them, Sushmita has already participated in the Asian Kickboxing Championship held recently at Pune, Maharashtra and won a silver medal for the country, while the WAKO Championship will be the first international tournament for Bijoy and Phurba.
At present, all three kick boxers are undergoing rigorous training sessions under the Chief Coach, BB Subba at Paljor Stadium.
Speaking to media persons today, the Chief Coach, Mr Subba expressed his deep happiness and satisfaction on three of his students making it to the national team. He further expressed full faith on his students' ability to win medals for the country and added that they are undergoing rigorous training to give a good fight at the international tourney.
Phurba is a teacher at Aho-Kisan Secondary School in East Sikkim. She has also expressed her immense happiness on being selected in the national team and hopes to win medals for the country.
Sushmita is pursuing her graduation from Sikkim Government College, Tadong and is also kickboxing instructor at Rey Valley International School. Representing the country in the world championship has been her dream which has finally come true, she said. Admitting that competition will be tough, she expressed full confidence in winning medals for the country.
Bijoy Gurung, who is with the Sikkim Armed Police, also said that he would give his best in the upcoming world championship. “I am very happy on being selected in the India team and I will fight my best to bring laurels for the country and Sikkim,” he said.
