Sikkim dedicates 10 Minutes to Earth


BOOK TITLED ‘ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES OF PAWAN CHAMLING’ RELEASED
GANGTOK, 25 June [IPR]: Governor BP Singh and the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling along with Mrs Tika Maya Chamling and family members accompanied by Forest Minister Bhim Dhungel planted Rhododendron (Maddeni) saplings on the occasion of Ten Minutes to Earth 2012 at the premises of Circuit House here in the capital today.
Appreciating the Ten Minutes to Earth programme, the Governor said that this programme initiated by the state for the cause of the mother earth, is a unique programme not only in the state and country but also in the whole world. Further he suggested that this innovative programme of the State needs to be incorporated in the Billion Tree Campaign of United Nations Environment Programme. This Billion Tree Campaign is overseeing the plantation of more than 12 billion trees worldwide under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
On the occasion, a book titled ‘Environmental Initiatives of Pawan Chamling’ was also released by the Governor.
Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Advisors, Mayor and Dy. Mayor, Chief Secretary and Additional Secretary, Secretaries and HODs, District Administration, NGOs, Officials from Forest Department and other Officials of the state government were also present during the plantation programme.

Does any one even knows what happens to the saplings and seedlings after the photo op and press coverage is over!!! they lie around and go to waste!! seen it happen with my own eyes around the SU building......a large no of saplings thrown around after the day got over...the ones who organised it didn't even bother to return it to the concerned Deptt. ....for them the deed done for the day and glory in front of the VC!!!!
